Big city crowds filling a sidewalk. Innocent vanities and the other things that need killing. Sheltering in place doesn’t protect you from the fallout. It is vanity. We’re told to come out of that place and carry on as if we haven’t been in there at all. The landscape is different, though. The landscape is the surface of the moon different for some.
Heading in the same direction is not walking in the same determination.

Sheltering in place doesn’t protect you from the fallout. It is vanity. We’re told to come out of that place and carry on as if we haven’t been in there at all. The landscape has changed. The landscape is the surface of the moon different. Cold, foreign, unworkable without heavy handed social equipment like free money and low interest rates, and more free money. The heavy social equipment isn’t for the sheltered. It’s for power brokers to buy time to adjust how they talk to consumers. Consumers who have been sheltering in place. Consumers who now realize we consume each other for vanity’s sake.

Power brokers haven’t figured out how to talk to employees. Shelter in the office, immediately. And other nonsense vanities. Employees who are the consumers who sheltered in place. Aware. Aware of the vanities we nurture, and our parents nurtured, and our grands before them. Technology interrupts awareness to offer a new shiny. Shellacked old vanities looking novel. Promising. Tech puts a gleam on all the vanity. Such newness. Such promise. Such bullshit. The American Dream is a banner ad. An invention like the lawns installed around the houses for sale. The dream feels cozy and safe. A little house on a little prairie. We sheltered there. Realized the weight and heft of staying there nurturing innocent vanities.
